Living with the Light of R' Gershon

In the world of influential personalities, there are those who leave an incredible mark on society, transforming lives with their wisdom, compassion, and unwavering commitment to their values. Recently, we mourned the loss of a true luminary, R' Gershon Edelstein, whose remarkable life touched countless individuals around the world.

Today it has been 1 week since his petirah. And I find myself reflecting on the invaluable teachings read from the newsletter that was brought to our shabbos table.

As a devoted kollel wife, each week brought me a renewed inspiration as R' Gershons weekly shiur was brought to life at our table. His teachings consistently emphasized true mussar together with the beauty and significance of Torah study, and how it leads us to become better individuals. His words radiated with light and purity, igniting a passion within me to embrace the glow of Torah and the positivity it brings to the world.

While R' Edelstein's teachings have had a profound and continual impact on me, this past week has offered a new perspective through articles and stories that have surfaced. I have come to appreciate his capacity to connect with people from all walks of life and levels of observance. Countless anecdotes and chinuch clips highlight his loving and understanding nature, as he humbly engaged with individuals, providing them with strength and attention. His serious stance spoke volumes about the sincerity of his character, while his heart poured forth with love and compassion.

One particular story, recounted in an Aish.com article dedicated to his memory, deeply resonated with me. It occurred during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, when uncertainty and fear gripped the world. Despite taking health precautions seriously, Rabbi Gershon Edelstein expressed to a distressed student that amidst the pandemic's air of tension, it would be fitting to "strengthen in humour" as a preparation for the upcoming Yamim Noraim. Encouraging a light-hearted and joyful atmosphere, demonstrated his understanding that a positive environment allows for the rest and tranquillity of a positive soul. Without the presence of positivity, each day becomes burdened with fear, hindering our connection to Hashem and the pursuit of Torah.

Despite his advanced age and his life experiences of suffering and pain, Rabbi Gershon Edelstein remained an unwavering pillar of strength and guidance. His ability to consistently radiate positivity and encourage a light-hearted and joyful atmosphere is a testament to his profound understanding that even amidst life's challenges, keeping a smile on our faces and staying positive is essential

The profound impact of Rabbi Gershon Edelstein's legacy will forever resonate within our hearts and minds. His serious stance, beholding eyes with a century of toil, understanding and love for all humanity. A symbol of serene strength, he portrays a message of sincere commitment.
